Team Thumper exists to contest the 2008 British Supermono Championship. Consisting of Andy Duncan (rider) and Boyd Brooks (mechanic), their aim is to achieve podium finishes in the “Aircooled” Class in the 2008 Championship.
In the 2007 season, Andy has been cutting his teeth in this class using a near-standard SRX600 roadMotorcycle . The Supermono Championship is prototype class, and as such does not have too many rules. In fact there are two:
1) minimum machine weight of 96 Kg
2) single cylinder motor of maximum 1300cc
And that’s it! So predictably, prototype frames abound, as you can race anything you like- it isn’t based on production models. Freedom of engineering expression makes this one of the most interesting and innovative classes in motorcycle sport today. Indeed, the only other prototype class available to the UK race scene is MotoGP.
In order to compete more seriously next season, they have now sourced a “new” frame (actually a well used aluminimium Tigcraft oil-in-frame chassis) and are scouting out a suitable “one-lung” motor to hang between the wheels. With a few “fourths in class” under Andy’s belt, and with Boyd’s vast experience in building things of beauty, they are sure to have an interesting and fulfilling season.
They are very grateful to all their sponsors, including the brilliant Motorbike -crazy.com , who have agreed to give them substantial discounts on necessaries for the coming season. They’d also like to thank those private benefactors who have dig deep into their own pockets to help the boys out.
